Last week Juventus headed to Naples knowing that a win for them would effectively end the title race. And what’s better to end the conversation at the home of your closest rivals. It couldn’t have gone any better.

The game at Stadio San Paolo felt like a game between the top two sides in Serie A. The challengers, Napoli, dominated the proceedings right from the outset, looking very much the most likely team to score. But it was Juve who took the lead.

Kévin Malcuit’s horrendous backpass was impeded by Cristiano Ronaldo who was fouled by the onrushing Alex Meret. He was the last man and was duly sent off. The resulting free-kick was perfectly curled in by Miralem Pjanic, while Emre Can made it 2-0 six minutes before the break.

Juve’s number advantage soon evaporated as Pjanic was shown the 2nd yellow card for handling the ball in the middle of the park.

Jose Callejon tapped in from close range to make it 1-2 and after that, it was game on. Napoli were the better team and should have leveled when they were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute. But captain Lorenzo Insigne scuppered the chance, and the rest is history.

With just 12 games remaining in the season, Juve’s 16 points lead at the top is too much ground for any team to cover. The title race is almost over now.

The real target for Massimiliano Allegri and his men is to remain alive in the Champions League.

Udinese:
Having won just four times in 24 games, Udinese have been trying to pull clear of the relegation zone all season. And they gave themselves a huge opportunity to do just that after winning the last two matches, which was the first time this season that they won two consecutive league games.

As a result, the Friulians moved seven points clear of the bottom three. That’s a huge gap at this stage of the competition. But it’s not unbridgeable either as two or three negative losses couple with a good run for the teams lying below them, will bring the danger right onto their head.

Juventus:
Injured – German international Sami Khedira is out of contention at the moment, as he is recovering from a heart procedure.
Columbia wingman Juan Cuadrado had surgery on his knee and is out, while Douglas Costa is expected to miss the match due to the hamstring problem.
Suspended – Miralem Pjanic is suspended following his two yellow card offense during the top-of-the-table clash against Napoli last weekend. Right-back Joao Cancelo will also be serving a one-game ban.

Note: It seems unlikely that Massimiliano Allegri will make too many changes here ahead of the Champions Legaue clash, in a bid to keep the squad prepared for Atletico Madrid. It means, Cristiano Ronaldo could lead the attack here, while Mario Mandzukic is expected to give him support.

Suspended – Former Juventus midfielder Rolando Mandragora is suspended.
