Netherlands Team News:

  • Dutch head coach Ronald Koeman named a strong 23-man squad for the UEFA Nations League semi-final game against England. The team largely made up of players playing either in the Premier League or for Ajax Amsterdam.

  • Virgil Van Dijk leads the pack of players from Premier League along with his Liverpool teammate Giorginio Waijnaldum. Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace), Nathan Ake (Bournemouth) and Davy Propper (Brighton & Hove Albion) complete the five-man list.
  • From Ajax, we have three players in the shape of Matthijs de Ligt, Daley Blind and Donny van de Beek. Though Frenkie de Jong is in the squad as well, but he is a Barcelona player now.

  • Kenny Tete had to withdraw from the squad due to injury, and was soon replaced by Atalanta’s Hans Hateboer.
  • In addition, five players – Steven Berghuis, Terence Kongolo, Pablo Rosario, Wout Weghorst and Jeroen Zoet – have been left out from Koeman’s preliminary squad.

Squad:

Possible ins or outs of this game:

  • Both Virgil Van Dijk and Georginio Wijnamldum played the UEFA Champions League on Saturday and may be asked to start from the off considering this is a semi-final of the UEFA Nations League.
  • Ryan Babel has been a consistent figure under Ronald Koeman and there are no reasons for that to change. He is the oldest player in the squad as well, and is the 2nd most capped player (56) in the team, behind Daley Blind (62).

Probable XI: Cillessen (GK), Dumfries, Van Dijk, De Ligt, Blind De Beek, De Jong, De Roon, Bergwijn, Depay, Babel

England Team News:

  • Chelsea duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben-Loftus Cheek both miss out through injury.
  • Harry Winks and Kieran Trippier have been left out of the final 23-man squad, despite being named in the preliminary squad. Tripper perhaps missed out due to the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker, while the likes of Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Dele Alli, and Declan Rice kept Winks out of the squad.
  • Southampton’s Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse were left-put as well.

Here is Gareth Southgate’s final 23-man squad for the UEFA Nations League:

  • Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland, Tom Heaton
  • Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ben Chilwell, Michael Keane, Danny Rose, Harry Maguire, John Stones, Kyle Walker
  • Midfielders: Jordan Henderson, Dele Alli, Declan Rice, Eric Dier, Ross Barkley, Fabian Delph, Jesse Lingard
  • Forwards: Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Callum Wilson

Possible Ins and Outs:

  • Seven of England’s current players in the squad played in the UEFA Champions League, and according to the reports, head coach Gareth Southgate may opt against starting either of them.

  • The news coming out from the England camp is that Raheem Sterling may be given the captaincy arm here if both Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane are named on the bench.
  • Everton center-back Michael Keane has had a wonderful season with his club, but with both John Stones and Harry Maguire fit and fresh, he may have to contend with a place on the bench.
  • The wing-backs should be Kyle Walker and Ben Chillwell. The latter being a straight and obvious choice, while the City star have competition from Liverpool’s Arnold. Though Walker is ahead in line due to his experience.
  • Eric Dier, Ross Barkley, and Declan Rice could be named in the midfield if Henderson and Alli are on the bench, while Sancho and Sterling are expected to play on either side of Rashford in the forward positions.

Probable XI: Pickford (GK), Walker, Stones, Maguire, Chilwell, Barkley, Rice, Dier, Sancho, Rashford, Sterling

England have a pathetic record against the Dutch, winning only two times in the last 14 matches. But the Three Lions triumphed 1-0 in last year’s friendly game and will be looking to win two consecutive games against the Nederlands for the first time since 1946.

Need more reasons to name him in your Dream11 Fantasy football?

Though he will play in the center, expect him to drift onto the wide positions as both Walker and Chilwell always play on the front foot. So there will be gaps for him to exploit on the wings. We back him to have a good game in front of his fans.

X-Factor- Both team’s backline, especially the center-backs.

The pairing of Virgil Van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt for the Netherlands is perhaps the best in the world these days. The former can easily claim to be the best at the moment. His impact at Liverpool has been unparalleled as he helped the Reds to become the European champion for an English record 6th time.

While England’s Harry Maguire and John Stones are pretty solid. They won’t be easy to get past. They are good in the air, have speed and the passing range to make an impact in the offensive department as well.
