CHE vs BAR Dream11 Prediction: Chelsea and Barnsley will look for some respite after losses in their respective domestic league campaigns when the Tykes travel to Stamford Bridge for the third round of the EFL Carabao Cup. Chelsea lost 2-0 to the current champions, Liverpool, which was a day to forget for the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Andreas Christensen. Chelsea had only themselves to blame after failing to follow-up their 3-1 win over Brighton and fell victim to Klopp’s rampant side. Lampard will look to convincingly beat Barnsley in his quest for silverware after missing out on trophies last season. Barnsley haven’t had a particularly good start to the season either as they’re currently winless in the Championship and their only win of the season has come away to Middlesbrough in the form of a 2-0 win in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Things went from bad to worse for Gerhard Struber’s side as they went down to 9 men in their last game as Michal Helik and Mads Juel Andersen got sent off. This is not the start that they would have wanted after narrowly escaping relegation by just one point last season.

Who will win today’s match?
Both teams will be on the hunt for a win for different reasons. Chelsea have a reputation to live up to which should be incentive enough. Frank Lampard has received a lot of backing in the summer, spending millions on players and two back-to-back loses will not bode well with the Chelsea hierarchy. The pressure is on them to show results for all their spending and trophy will do just that, starting with the Carabao Cup. For a side like Barnsley, who struggle to survive in the second-tier of English football, a trip to Stamford Bridge is a huge game – a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of their players. They will give their all and leave everything on the pitch when they face the Blues later on. They will not be afraid to shy away and it can be expected that they will compete for every 50-50 and go head-on in every challenge. Lampard will play a second-string side but a side good enough to win the game. The contrast in their opponent’s quality from last game to this game is striking but the message from the manager will be the same – win at all costs! Captain options
Kai Havertz – The German hasn’t had the best start to life in the Premier League after completing a high-profile transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. He featured in both of Chelsea’s games but was quite underwhelming. However, Havertz needs a big performance to regain his confidence and a goal or assist against Barnsley will help him with that because an in-form Havertz is one of the best young players in the world.
Callum Hudson-Odoi – Another youngster looking to prove himself is Callum Hudson-Odoi. Wanted by Bayern Munich about a year ago, Hudson-Odoi stayed at Chelsea but has been very underwhelming. He has not been up to the mark when he got a chance to start either and will look to change that this season. He has the skill to go with it but with all the new signings, he will find chances harder to come by.
Dominik Frieser – The new signing from LASK comes in and immediately improves their side. He scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists last season. Having played in the European Leagues as well, he brings in a lot of experience that Barnsley desperately need. Gerhard Struber will look to deploy him to cause the Chelsea some problems. He hasn’t opened his scoring or assisting account yet but a goal contribution against a top Premier League side will make him an instant fan-favourite.
X-factors (differential picks)
Ross Barkley – The former Evertonian has gone from being an extremely promising youth player to a second-choice midfielder in Chelsea’s pecking order. However, he is an excellent second-choice midfielder to have. With Kovacic having an excellent 2019/20 season, Barkley will have to do very well in to take his spot. On the contrary, Ruben Loftus-Cheek not living up to his potential which is great news for Barkley.
Tammy Abraham – Abraham had a great start to the 2019/20 campaign and was on course to have a 25+ goal season as well but due to a dip in form, he had to settle for 18 goals in all competitions. Olivier Giroud eventually replaced him and now Timo Werner looks to be a shoo-in for the first-team. The youngster will be given starts only sparingly and will have to take his chances. Having played in the lower leagues not too long back and will look to use that to his advantage.
Cesar Azpilicueta – A rampant Reece James has practically locked his spot at right-back but Cesar Azpilicueta has been a huge figure in the Chelsea squad through a lot of good years and can not be written off. His experience will come in handy against Barnsley as the Chelsea captain has had 13 goals and 49 assists during his time at the club and will be an issue for the Tykes, both defensively and offensively.
