It’s the Der Klassiker- The biggest game in Bundesliga, and to some extent, it’s Germany’s answer to El Clasico. Because it’s too big a global fixture and fans are divided into half whenever these two teams collide on a football pitch.

Bayern Munich will be playing host to Borussia Dortmund in the latest installment of this fiercely fought fixture, and like always there’s so much riding on this game, but not the title.

Bayern could have wrapped up the title two weeks ago and before the international break playing the role of an intruder. But it could be a blessing in disguise as for the first and in a long-long time, something unique could happen if the reigning Bundesliga Champions win today.

First, if Schalke drop points against Freiburg and Bayern beat Dortmund, it will be the first time in 18 years that the Munich win the Bundesliga title at home.

Also, Bayern have already defeated Dortmund twice this season, once in Bundesliga and another 2-1 win in DFB Pokal Cup. But Munich giant have never beaten the BVB three times in a single season in the history of this fixture.

So what if Bundesliga is not the goal here for Dortmund, they will certainly not want to enter into the history books for all sorts of unwanted things.

For Borussia Dortmund, the target is very simple. They are aiming to become the 2nd best team in German football. But their eternal rival Schalke are 2nd in the table, one point better than Dortmund. And if the Royal Blues win the match against Freiburg, which looks certain, and Dortmund come out as the 2nd best at the Allianz Arena, which again looks a bigger probability, then the gap will be four points.

Considering how well, Schalke are playing this season and only six games after this round of fixtures, Dortmund may run out of games in their quest to finish 2nd in Bundesliga.

But the visitors are a potent team and possess enough talent to shock the host in this match. One certain player is Michy Batshuayi who has been scoring goals for fun since he switched his loyalties from Chelsea to Dortmund during the January transfer window. He has scored six goals since January and is the top scorer for Dortmund since the turn of this year.

Talking about the potency and you just can’t avoid Robert Lewandowski. The 29-year-old Polish International has 23 goals to his name this season and is destined to finish the season as Bundesliga’s top-scorer for third straight season.
