The defending champions Barcelona will be travelling to Valencia to take on Levante in the 1st leg of Copa del Rey round-of-16 match at Ciutat de València, in Valencia, tomorrow, on Thursday night.

Manager Paco Lopez has done a remarkable job with his current club considering Levante only promoted to La Liga two seasons ago. Against all odds and predictions, he managed to steer his team to a respectable 15th place in the 2017-18 season, a huge 17 points away from the relegation zone.

This is the very fixture which gave Levante their biggest night last season, and a special mention in the history books.

Barcelona were still unbeaten and were aiming to become the first side in the 80 odd years to finish the league campaign unbeaten in Spain. But Levante shocked the world as they beat the Blaugrana 5-4 and robbed Messi and Co. of a very big achievement. Perhaps this could be the reason why Barcelona were so adamant in their last visit to Ciutat de València as they thumped Levante 5-0.

As far as Copa del Rey is concerned, Levante have never won it and their best finish remains quarterfinals which they achieved in 1935.

Barcelona:

The Catalan giants are the undisputed king of this competition. They have won the last four, including the last season’s which was their 30th Copa del Rey title. Barcelona will once again be looking to defend the title as they aim to emulate the treble-winning 2015 season.

In the last round, Ernesto Valverde’s faced Cultural Leonesa in the round of 32. After winning the first leg 1-0, the former Athletic Bilbao boss fielded a 2nd string team in the 2nd leg at Camp Nou and comfortably won the match 4-1 to win the tie 5-1 on aggregate.

As things stand, Barcelona are very much in the hunt to win every competition they are playing in at the moment. They are five points clear at the top of La Liga, are through to the round of 16 in the Champions League and face Levante over the two legs in the Copa del Rey. It’s all looking good for Barca at the moment.
