BAR vs ESL Dream11 MATCH PREVIEW:
Barcelona will make a short trip within the city to take on city rival Espanyol in La Liga in the first instalment of Catalan Derby at RCDE Stadium, tomorrow on Saturday night (IST).
Espanyol:
Espanyol are in the midst of a purple patch at the moment and the form alone can’t be trusted in the match against their esteemed rivals from the same city.
It was only until last month, precisely the period between September 25 and November 11 where they won four times in La Liga, that Espanyol were sitting at fourth and were dreaming about a European venture next season. But dreams require a perseverance from the dreamer and in a team game, it requires a collective effort exuding more intensity than your opponents. And that’s where this club has failed in the last month.
Rubi’s men are now on a three-game losing streak in La Liga, including a chastening 1- home loss against Girona. This little period has left the left at seventh place. However, thanks to the good work of the last month, Espanyol are still within touching distance of top-4, and only four points away from 3rd placed Atletico Madrid.
The dreams can still be achieved, however, they have to beat Barcelona to really infuse a proper belief.
Barcelona:
Barcelona have endured their fair share of ups and downs this season. They are averaging just two points per game, and still lead the table coming into this match, one and three points ahead of Sevilla and Atletico Madrid respectively. The struggle of Real Madrid is the reason why it’s the case.
The Catalan giants have performed quite well in the big games this season. They thumped Real Madrid 5-1 in the El Clasico, beat Sevilla 4-2 while scrapping out to earn a 1-1 draw at Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid. In addition, the team has also won two big games in the Champions League against Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.
The two losses have come in La Liga, an out-of-the-blue 2-1 away loss against relegation fighter Leganes, and an equally unthinkable 3-4 home defeat against Real Betis. And Ernesto Valverde’s men have also drawn four games, few of which came against teams currently fighting for their top-flight status.
