Levante will be looking to break into the top-6 with a win when they host Athletic Bilbao in a La Liga match at Ciutat de València, in Valencia, tomorrow on Monday night (IST).

Levante:
No doubt Levante are having one of the best ever season in their football history, and without a shadow of any doubt, the incredible and the unthinkable 1-2 win over Real Madrid remain a result which may be engraved under some loggia inside the Levante’s Stadium.

They followed that win with a 2-0 home win over Leganes and were in the top-4 at that moment. Since then, they have failed to win in the last four, three in La Liga, while one game ended in a defeat against Real Sociedad.

But the consistency is something which can’t be separated from this club at this moment. They have some big away games but also fell to big home defeats including a chastening 2-6 home battering against Sevilla.

Though relegation is not a threat at this moment and shouldn’t be considering the trend of the results, however, the big targets can’t be achieved through inconsistency.

Athletic Bilbao:
Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, are struggling for the results. Not since winning 2-1 at home against Leganes in the very first game of the new season that they have tasted victory in La Liga. As a result, the club has now fallen into the bottom three and is preparing to fight on a  completely different front which may not have been perceived in distant dreams.

But the signs were already there. The Basque giants finished at a lowly 16th position in the last season, their worst every finish to a campaign since the 2006-07 season when they ended on 17th in La Liga.

The ageing squad, the sale of the big players and the failure to spend wisely on new recruits could be the reason why they have fallen so heavily and to lowly standards in the last couple of years.

However, Iker Muniain has signed a contract extension with the club and that’s a step in the right direction. He is a real talent and Bilbao must build their team around him.
