Mithali Raj is certain of India’s chances in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 to be held in West Indies next month. The India opener, who will be playing her fifth T20 World Cup, says they are a far settled group this time for an ICC event.
‘Even if top-order fails, there are players who’ll rescue’
In conversation with The Hindu, Mithali Raj said that they have a pretty poor record in this particular ICC event. India has failed to qualify for the knock-outs except in the first two editions.
She is hopeful that they have the side who can do well this time. Mithali Raj said, “it will be great if we can make the semifinals this time. Earlier, there were only two or three batters on whom we had to look up for big scores. Now, even if the top-order fails, we have batters like ’keeper Tania who can rise to the occasion.”
Last ODI World Cup show has given us the momentum
Mithali feels that the world witness them at the last ODI World Cup and the showing in England has also given them the belief to do well in big events.
“We hope to continue the momentum from., it will be great if can repeat and even better that showing,” said Mithali.

On opening the batting
Mithali said she felt shackled when batting at No. 3 in the ODIs and the opening role has given her freedom to express.
“It is a different experience facing the new ball. My job is to ensure a good start and that would mean greater freedom at the top. I am happy that I will be opening the innings in this event” said Mithali.
On India vs Pakistan game and tournament favourites
Mithali said that the game against Pakistan will be interesting, for obvious reasons.
She said Australia is the best team with a long line-up. She feels New Zealand is another team to watch out for the big hitters their ranks.
