India are the #1 T20I team in the world. They had reached here with some remarkable performance over the last year or so. They have won literally every series that they played all over the world. The upcoming Asia Cup will be a big test for them as they will have Pakistan to compete with.
Asia Cup 2022: India to defeat Pakistan in the tournament opener
India wouldn’t have forgotten the hammering they received against Pakistan in the T20 world cup last year in Dubai. They have got the opportunity to avenge for their defeat in the exact same venue. Pakistan are without their star bowler Shaheen Afridi. So is India who don’t have two of their primary bowlers in Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. This makes things even between the two sides.
This contest will show the team with a better depth and it surely is India on paper atleast. Indian white ball depth is second to none, thanks to IPL. Even without two of their first choice bowlers, India’s pace bowling attack is filled with experience and variety. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan cover a wide range of requirements needed for a T20 bowling attack. India can also bring in Ravichandran Ashwin if they feel they need all types of spinners in the team.
Pakistan’s bowling attack would have been lethal with Shaheen Afridi in the team but without him, their bowling attack looks toothless to say the least. Their middle order is not as explosive as India’s middle order as well. All in all, India is expected to win the game rather easily against Pakistan to start their tournament on a winning note.

Interesting matchups to watch out
Naseem Shah vs Indian openers
Naseem Shah is an emerging bowler for Pakistan. He can swing the ball both the ways and his ability to bowl at high pace makes him a lethal weapon against Indian openers with the new ball.
Suryakumar Yadav vs Shadab Khan & Mohammad Nawaz
Suryakumar Yadav is an excellent player of leg spin bowling but he is largely poor against SLAs. Pakistan can potentially end up playing with 2 SLAs in the XI and attack Suryakumar Yadav with them which will stop the in form batsman.
