T20 World Cup to have 20 Teams? Here’s official ICC update

The T20 World Cup 2021 is around the corner and the shortest format in international cricket is getting traction due to the global reach to the audience worldwide. After the introduction of IPL, some major T20 leaagues erupted in the cricket world. The Cricket Australia floated Big Bash League and England Cricket Board have been proactive in making Vitality Blast a better tournament. This T20 leagues have spread almost all the countries hosting their franchise T20 leagues. This has pushed the Intrnational Cricket council to make this format a global platform for reaching out to the audience all around the world.

T20 World Cup 2024 to have 20 Teams?
The International Cricket Council has been taking major steps to push the game of cricket to a wider audience. In a report by EspnCricinfo, it has been said that the ICC has been drafting a plan to include 20 teams in the next T20 World Cup. It has also been said that the ICC tends to increase the teams in the women’s competitions as well to attract a good amount of audience.
“The ICC has long seen the T20 format as a vehicle for the game’s expansion and there has been previous talk of such an expansion. The ICC have already confirmed their plans to increase the number of teams in their women’s competitions,” EspnCricinfo reports.

How Many teams will participate in T20 World Cup 2021?
The T20 World Cup 2021 will witness 16 teams participating in the tournament. Apart from the top 10 nations, namely Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Namibia, Scotland, Oman qualified through the 2019 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. These teams will be the front runners for the ICC to reach a global audience.
