Dinesh Karthik expects THIS youngster to play major role in T20 World Cup

The grand stage is all set for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 which will be played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The global event was all set to take place in India but the COVID-19 crisis forced BCCI to move the tournament to the gulf country. The event will take place from October 17 to November 14. With the itinerary being revealed for the tournament, many Indian fans and experts are already of the opinion that who should don an Indian jersey for the mega tournament.
Dinesh Karthik bats for Varun Chakravarthy to play a major role in T20 World Cup
Varun Chakravarthy’s career so far has been a roller coaster ride. He came in the limelight on the back of his stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and was then later picked in the Indian squad for the tour of Australia but in a disappointing turn of events, he was ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury.

After recovering from the injury, Varun Chakravarthy received the national call-up for the T20I series against England, earlier this year, but before joining the squad he failed to clear the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) repeatedly, which further ruled him out of the T20I series.
The mystery spinner then displayed a sensational display in the first half of the IPL 2021 which rewarded him a place in the national team against Sri Lanka. Even though he took only two wickets in the T20I series against Sri Lanka but he was the most economical Indian bowler with an economy rate of 5.3.
With T20 World Cup approaching soon, the Tamil-Nadu born spinner is one among the favourites to make cut into the Indian squad for the ICC event as many fans and pundits feel that his variations with the ball in spin-favouring conditions in UAE could prove vital for Virat Kohli-led side.
His KKR teammate and commentator Dinesh Karthik during the ICC Digital show with Darren Sammy talked about the impact the mystery spinner can have in the T20 World Cup.
“My choice is a guy called Varun Chakravarthy. I feel he’s got something really special in him. If India goes all the way, I can promise you this boy that I’m speaking about will have played a major role in them moving forward in this tournament. Remember the name ‘Varun Chakravarthy’, Mr Darren Sammy,” he said.

A look at Varun Chakravarthy’s T20 numbers
Over the last couple of years, Varun Chakravarthy’s name has been hogging over the headlines for his performances. The mystery spinner so far, in 21 IPL matches has taken 25 wickets at an average and economy rate of 24.4 and 7.35 respectively. He also has an impressive decent T20 record as he has taken 27 wickets in his 24 matches with an economy rate of 7.10.
