2. Suryakumar Yadav:
Perhaps, no Indian player has impressed more than Surykumar Yadav in the last couple of years. He wreaked havoc in last year’s IPL. His impressive performances in IPL as well as in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 helped him secure a place in India’s T20 side against England.
In his very first innings he batted, he scored a scintillating 57 off 31 balls. Suryakumar Yadav is adjudged the Player of the series in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. He amassed 124 runs in 3 matches at an average of 62. There is no doubt about his class. He has all the shots in the book. He has the ability to put the good balls to boundaries.
For him to solidify his place for the T20 World Cup, Surykumar Yadav needs to come good in the T20 series. Given the kind of form he is in, he is likely to produce match-winning performances.
3. Varun Chakravarthy:
Varun Chakravarthy didn’t get a chance in the ODI series but is likely to make his debut in the first T20 international on Sunday. He was earlier denied the Indian team debut due to injury and failing to pass fitness tests.
Varun Chakravarthy played all seven games for KKR in IPL 2021 and 7 wickets at an economy of under 8. He bowled the difficult overs and troubled the batsmen on numerous occasions with his array of variations.
Varun Chakravarthy is rated highly owing to the skills he possesses. The selectors will be watching him keenly in the three T20Is. With the T20I series in Sri Lanka being India’s last before the T20 World Cup, this will be Chakravarthy’s first – and probably last – chance to stake a claim for the perennial tournament.
