3 Indian players who should be picked in T20 WC Side after SL tour

To be honest, the result in the recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka T20 series between India and Sri Lanka wasn’t on the expected lines. India would be disappointed to have lost the series 2-1. After winning the first T20, they went on to lose the next two games.

Having said it, the Indian Team must also be praised for completing the series despite the fact the nine of the players in the squad got ruled out of the series after Krunal Pandya was tested positive for the virus.

Overall, it was a decent tour for the Men in Blue. While there were a lot of disappointing performances from the Indian players during the series, some of them won hearts for exhibiting eye-catching performances.

On that note, here’s a look at three Indian players who performed well on the SL tour and thus should be picked in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup:

  1. Suryakumar Yadav:

Suryakumar Yadav

There is no denying that Suryakumar Yadav has impressed the most on the Sri Lankan tour. He was perhaps the only Indian batsman who looked comfortable against all the Sri Lanka bowlers. Be it spin or pace, Suryakumar Yadav dominated all the bowlers with ease. He made an unbeaten 31 to help India chase down 263 in the first ODI.

This was followed by a half-century in the second ODI and 40 off 37 in the last game. In 3 games, he hammered 124 runs at an average of 62 and was also adjudged the player of the series.

He played another stellar knock in the first of the three-match T20 series. On a pitch where all other batsmen were struggling to score runs, Suryakumar reached his half-century in just 33 balls. He, unfortunately, was ruled out of the final two T20 internationals.

In the last couple of years, Suryakumar Yadav has been scoring runs consistently. He has scored runs in whatever opportunities he has got in international cricket. Given his ability to dominate both spinners and pacers and also his recent form, he should make it into India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

2. Prithvi Shaw

In the first very ODI of the tour, Prithvi Shaw exhibited how destructive he can be at the top of the order. Prithvi Shaw gives you a good option as your backup opener for the T20 World Cup. His strike rate in the format is lip-smacking.

Shaw scored 105 runs in 3 games at an average and strike rate of 35 and 125 respectively. Though, he would be disappointed to not have converted the good starts into big scores. T20 format, however, is a different ball game and an opener like Prithvi Shaw can give India powerful starts in the powerplay overs.

3. Rahul Chahar:

While Yuzvendra Chahar is still looked as the first choice spinner in the team, Rahul Chahar has been giving him neck-to-neck competition as far as the T20 internationals are concerned. Rahul Chahar even replaced Chahal in the final two T20 internationals in the recent five-match series against England.

Chahar played the final two T20 internationals against Sri Lanka and impressed one and all. In two games, he managed to pick three wickets at an impressive average of 10.40. In the last game, he was the only one who gave India the slightest of hope for a win. He accounted for three wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs. If he manages to perform well in the IPL as well, then the leggie has a real chance of making it into India’s World Cup squad.
