Moeen Ali is a professional cricketer who plays for the England cricket team in all formats of the game. He is of Pakistani and English descent. He was born on 18 June 1987 in Birmingham. Moeen has played for England since 2014. His ODI and T20I debut came against West Indies in March 2014. Two months later, he earned his Test cap versus Sri Lanka. He has played county cricket for Warwickshire and currently represents Worcestershire. A keen football fan, he is a supporter of Liverpool F.C.
Moeen bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off-spin. An elegant batsman with impeccable timing, he is also a very underrated bowler who has 189 Test wickets to his name. He developed the ‘doosra’ with the help of Saeed Ajmal, who he interacted with while playing for Worcestershire.
Moeen is one of the few players to score more than 5000 runs and take over 250 wickets in all formats of international cricket. His achievements have led him to be ranked as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket at present. He has been a vital member of England’s team in both Tests and ODIs. He was part of the national squad that won the ODI World Cup in 2019.
English players arrived late in the IPL. For many years, Kevin Pietersen remained a lone warrior and prominent advocate of the league. But with England’s supremacy in white-ball cricket and IPL’s growing brand, the scene has changed. As many as 13 England cricketers are part of the tournament in 2021. Foreign all-rounders are much in demand, and Moeen Ali is a much sought-after player.

Moeen Ali IPL Career and Performance
Moeen Ali started his IPL journey with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018. He played 19 IPL matches over three seasons for the Virat Kohli-led side and scored 309 runs at a strike rate of 158. With the ball, Moeen took ten wickets at an economy of 7.14. His skills were underutilized by RCB as he batted pretty low down the order and did not bowl as much as he should have. He was released by them after three years ahead of the 2021 IPL auction.
RCB’s loss has been CSK’s gain. Chinna Thala Suresh Raina has been a consistent run scorer for the side at 1 down. However, given the confidence to bat at no.3, Moeen has repaid the faith shown to him by the CSK think tank. He has scored 206 runs in 6 games at a strike rate of 157. He has also picked up five wickets at an economy of just 6.16. If only he were playing at the Chepauk stadium, he would have done even better.

Moeen Ali IPL 2021 playing team
In January 2018, Moeen was snapped up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was with them for three seasons before being released ahead of IPL 2021. CSK grabbed Moeen’s services this time. The Chennai-based team had a forgettable IPL 2020. Moeen has been one of the key members in revitalizing their performance this year.
Moeen has slotted in seamlessly at No.3 and scored runs at an impressive strike rate. He is loving life batting at the top of the order and happy to get the backing of the team management.
“MS (Dhoni) backed me to bat up the order and play like I play for Worcester. It’s nice to get that confidence from the captain. I get it here (in England) as well. But we have got so many world-class players it’s difficult to get up the order. I’m just trying to enjoy my cricket. In the past, I would let that affect me. But I have come to realise that sometimes it is just the way it is,” Moeen said.
