Jos Buttler mankad by R Ashwin during IPL 2019
R Ashwin Mankading Jos Buttler in a game during IPL 2019 is unarguably one of the most controversial dismissals in the history of the marquee tournament. It was during the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) an incident took place that shook the entire cricket fraternity.
Chasing the target, Jos Buttler was at his best and was quickly taking the match away from Kings XI Punjab. When R Ashwin came into the attack, he saw the wicket-keeper batsman backing up too far at the non-striker’s end and stopped midway through his bowling action and knocked over the bails, appealing for a ‘mankading’ dismissal. The on-field umpires, however, didn’t withdraw the appeal and adjudged Buttler out.
Even though the mankading falls between the legal rules of cricket, R Ashwin became some sort of a villain as many felt that it wasn’t in the spirit of the game and the off-spinner didn’t show sportsmanship. The decision completely changed the match as KXIP made a comeback and in the end, won the match.
