The IPL 2025 auction saw record-breaking bids, with franchises going all in to secure top talent. Five players stood out, commanding the highest price tags in the tournament’s history.
Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) – ₹27 Crore
Lucknow Super Giants made the biggest move of the auction, signing Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore. Delhi Capitals tried to retain him using the Right-to-Match (RTM) option at ₹20.75 crore, but LSG raised the stakes. The star wicketkeeper-batsman is now the most expensive signing in IPL history.
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings) – ₹26.75 Crore
Punjab Kings secured Shreyas Iyer after a three-way bidding war involving KKR and Delhi Capitals. Fresh off leading Kolkata to their third IPL title, Iyer attracted a massive ₹26.75 crore bid. After missing IPL 2023 due to injury, he returned in 2024 with 351 runs in 14 matches and played a key role in KKR’s championship run.
Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders) – ₹23.75 Crore
KKR made sure to bring back Venkatesh Iyer, investing ₹23.75 crore in the all-rounder. His IPL journey has been impressive, with a century in 2023 and a crucial unbeaten 52 in KKR’s 2024 final victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Though his time with the Indian T20I squad was brief, he remains an essential asset for his franchise.
Arshdeep Singh (Punjab Kings) – ₹18 Crore
A six-team bidding war ended with Punjab Kings using the RTM option to keep Arshdeep Singh for ₹18 crore. The left-arm pacer had a strong IPL 2024 season, taking 19 wickets in 14 innings. His ability to deliver under pressure made him one of the most sought-after bowlers in the auction.
Yuzvendra Chahal (Punjab Kings) – ₹18 Crore
Yuzvendra Chahal, one of IPL’s most consistent spinners, also found a home with Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore. Though not a regular in India’s white-ball squad, his experience and wicket-taking ability make him a valuable asset. With big grounds favoring his style, he remains a key player for any team looking to dominate in the spin department.
