English cricketer Sam Billings, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced that he will not be participating in the upcoming IPL season. Billings made his IPL debut in 2016 playing for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and was later bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018. In 2019, he played for CSK in only one match where he remained unbeaten on zero. Billings’ stint with CSK ended after the 2019 season, and he was later picked up by KKR in the 2022 auction for INR 2 crores.
During the 2022 season, Billings played eight matches for KKR and scored 169 runs at an average of 24.14 and a strike rate of 122.46. He hit nine fours and 10 sixes and was also involved in six catches and one stumping. His performance was decent, but he failed to make a significant impact on the team’s overall performance.

Billings’ absence in IPL 2023
Billings’ decision to withdraw from IPL 2023 has come as a surprise to many, especially considering that he had performed well in the previous season. His withdrawal has created a void in the KKR team, as he was one of the main middle-order batsmen and a reliable wicket-keeper. His absence also means that KKR will have an extra two crore in their purse, which they can use in the upcoming mini-auction.
