RR History and Legacy
RR was one of the original eight teams that participated in the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008. The team was captained by legendary Australian cricketer Shane Warne, who also served as the team’s coach. RR surprised everyone by winning the first IPL tournament in 2008, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final.
In the following years, RR’s performance was mixed. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2009 and 2010, but reached the playoffs in 2011, finishing in third place. RR then finished in seventh place in 2012 and sixth place in 2013.
The team was banned from the IPL for two years (2016 and 2017) due to the involvement of its owners in the 2013 IPL betting scandal. After the ban was lifted, RR returned to the IPL in 2018 under the captaincy of Australian cricketer Steve Smith. The team finished in fourth place in the 2018 season.

However, halfway through the season, Rahane was replaced as captain by Australian cricketer Steve Smith, who had returned from a one-year ban for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal. The team won three of its last four matches under Smith’s captaincy.
In the 2020 season, RR finished in last place under the captaincy of Steve Smith. The team won only six of its 14 matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
For the 2021 season, RR appointed Sanju Samson as its new captain. However, the team once again failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing in fifth place.
