Odean Smith IPL
Odean Smith IPLÂ ability to bowl fast and contribute with the bat made him an attractive prospect for the Gujarat Titans. His purchase at a relatively low price shows that the franchise is looking to build a well-balanced squad with a mix of experienced and upcoming players.
Odean Smith, the West Indies all-rounder, has played 24 T20Is and five ODIs for his country since making his international debut in 2018. He has taken 24 wickets in T20Is at an economy of 9.84 and scored 162 runs at a strike-rate of 139.65. Overall, he has taken 70 wickets and scored 485 runs in 66 appearances in all T20 cricket.
Smith’s talent has made him a highly sought-after player in various franchise leagues across the globe. He has represented several teams, including the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Lucia Stars, and Trinidad & Tobago at the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) back home, and the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Smith’s success in franchise cricket is not surprising, given his ability to contribute both with bat and ball. He has a reputation for being a reliable medium-fast bowler, who can maintain a good economy rate while picking up wickets. His T20I strike rate of 139.65 indicates that he is also a handy batsman, who can score runs quickly when needed.
Smith’s all-round skills were on full display during the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in 2016, where he was a key member of the West Indies team that won the tournament. He has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising all-rounders in the Caribbean.
Odean Smith IPLÂ inclusion in the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2023 is a good move by the franchise, as they look to build a strong squad for the upcoming season. The all-rounder’s experience and skills will add depth to the team’s bowling and batting departments, and his presence could prove to be invaluable in crunch situations.
Odean Smith IPL 2022 Performance
Odean Smith made headlines when he was signed by the Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 6 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction, making him one of the most expensive buys in the competition. However, his performance in the tournament was underwhelming. In the six games he played for the Kings, he managed only 51 runs at an average of 17 and a strike-rate of 115.91. He also took six wickets but conceded runs at an economy rate of 11.87.
Smith had a mixed IPL debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he returned 0/52 in four overs. However, he made a valuable contribution with the bat, helping the Kings chase down 206 with an over to spare with a blistering 25* off 8 balls. But in his next outing, he was at the receiving end of Andre Russell’s onslaught, and later against Rahul Tewatia, who smashed him for two back-to-back sixes to complete one of the most epic finishes in IPL history.
