The stadium served as the home ground of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians until 2010. The headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the 1983 Cricket World Cup winner were also located in the North Stand of Brabourne Stadium until 2006, after which they were relocated to a new Cricket Centre at the nearby Wankhede Stadium.

Brabourne Stadium has hosted Test matches from 1948 to 1972 and numerous Bombay Pentangular games from 1937 to 1946.
