Yusuf Pathan given out obstructing the field (IPL 2013)
The IPL 2013 season saw Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Yusuf Pathan getting dismissed by the umpires after he was found guilty of obstructing the field.
In a match against Pune Warriors, Yusuf Pathan was at his hitting best and was playing at 72 runs off 44 balls with eight fours and two sixes to his name. However in the 18th over the innings hit a yorker from Wayne Parnell and quickly tried to sneak in a single. Running towards the non-striker’s end, Pathan attempted to push the ball away with his foot before the bowler could grab it and hit towards the stumps.
The incident caught the attention of the opposition players and they appealed to the on-field umpire. After a long decision, umpires concluded that Yusuf Pathan had intentionally kicked the ball to save his wicket and he was given out as obstructing the field which was the first instance in IPL history.
Why was IPL 2021 postponed?
The 14th edition of IPL was indefinitely postponed with 29 of the 60 scheduled games played out. The COVID-19 cases among players and support staff inside the bio-bubble in as many as four teams led to the BCCI being forced to stop the tournament with immediate effect on 4th May. However, the governing body recently announced that the second phase of the marquee tournament will commence from 19th September in UAE with the final to be played on 15th October.
