David Warner’s dismissal against RCB in IPL 2020
The 13th edition of the IPL which took place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), saw one controversial dismissal during the Eliminator game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Batting first, RCB had only managed to put 132 runs on the board. While chasing SRH skipper David Warner was on the crease and during the initial stage of the innings, he failed to properly judge a delivery by Mohammed Siraj and it seemed that the southpaw had been caught behind as the entire RCB team appealed. The ball passed from the gap between Warner’s bat and legs and was caught by keeper AB De Villiers. The on-field umpire remained unmoved and wasn’t satisfied by RCB’s appeal, giving the decision in the favour of the batsman.

Skipper Kohli then opted for DRS and the third umpire carried out a thorough replay of the delivery which indicated that the SRH skipper might have gloved the ball. However, after the countless replays, the third umpire found no conclusive evidence of the ball touching the batsman’s glove but he overturned the decision of the on-field umpire and gave Warner out. This sparked a huge controversy as many former cricketers raised some serious questions over the standard of umpiring.
