As IPL Auction for season 2020 comes to a closure, it is time to take a look at how formidable each squad looks after reinforcements. Did they able to build Championship sides on Auction tables? Let’s check IPL squads.
Mumbai Indians
Strength: They have a pretty settled Playing 11 with backups for each position. Also their Indian Core, as many as 5 Indian Internationals would be playing for them in April.
Weakness: Not apparently any but if you still have to dig out then lack of experience and depth in Spin bowling department. Krunal tends to go for journey against certain matchups.
Opportunity: Chris Lynn to make hay on Wankhede deck.
Threat: MI might have a problem if Bumrah goes down with regards to Indian Fast Bowling options.
Chennai Super Kings
Strength: One Word – Experience
Weakness: Mostly a Spin heavy team, they might struggle on grounds where spin is not effective.
Opportunity: Excellent opportunity for Piyush Chawla to spin his webs at Chepauk.
Threat: They would be having issues if Shane Watson can’t find form and consistency at Top. There are no overseas backup openers.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Strength: Finch, Kohli and AB de Villiers can make strong base for T20 batting lineup.
Weakness: Still they will be lacking power hitting down the order and finishers.
Opportunity: Aaron Finch will be getting a lot of opportunities at Chinnaswamy. Josh Phillipe has potential to be a Match Winner.
Threat: They consist of fast bowlers who tend to go for runs especially on their home ground. This will continue to worry them again.
Delhi Capitals
Strength: Solid Squad on Paper this time plus Core young Indian batting group.
Weakness: Too many options for some of their slots.
Opportunity: Shimron Hetmyar will get a lot of opportunities in this team and he will enjoy short mid wicket boundaries at Kotla.
Threat: They will have issues if Rabada breaks down, due to lack of options in death bowling.
Rajasthan Royals
Strength: Settled Overseas Core of 4 players.
Weakness: Finishing might be an issue for them apart from Ben Stokes. David Miller is there but they won’t be able to fit him in playing 11 regularly.
Opportunity: Robin Uthappa and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both at extreme spectrums of their careers but both will get plenty of opportunities at this franchise.
Threat: No backup for Ben Stokes, their balance of squad might go for a toss if anything happens to Ben Stokes.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Strength: Rich Fast Bowling stocks may come in handy on Eden pitch.
Weakness: Lack of experience in Indian batting apart from Dinesh Karthik.
Opportunity: Tom Banton and Chris Green. Two absolute steals at that price and potential match winners come April.
Threat: Same story as RR, Different team altogether if Andre Russell is not fully fit.
Kings XI Punjab
Strength: Excellent batting core of KL Rahul, Mayank, Gayle, Maxwell and Pooran.
Weakness: Second Fast Bowling Indian Option after Shami is Ishan Porel, excellent talent but too much to ask looking at the squad.
Opportunity: KL Rahul has the opportunity to lead a team at IPL for the very first time.
Threat: They might find it difficult to field perfect playing 11 looking at various conditions across the IPL.
SunRisers Hyderabad
Strength: Best Opening Pair going around in T20 cricket.
Weakness: Lack of finishing powers which was their Achilles heel last season and not much improvement after auction either.
Opportunity: if Jonny Bairstow available for full season, we are in for some entertainment.
Threat: Fitness and form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, due to lack of experience in other options.
