IPL 2020

Chennai Super Kings, the second most successful side in IPL, will be eying to get value overseas players in their limited slots. CSK can buy two more overseas players in the IPL 2020 Auction, after they retained Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, and Imran Tahir.

The think tank will be looking for a middle-order batsman and fast bowler ahead of the auction. With the limited money in the purse, Chennai Super Kings can not afford bigger names in the auction, the likes of Morgan, Maxwell are beyond them.

IPL 2020 Auction CSK’s likely targets

Shimron Hetmyer

Hetmyer was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore after a poor season in 2019, where he could only muster 90 runs from 5 games. The 22-year-old Windies batsman is super talented and is good against spin to suit home conditions.

Hetmyer scored 440 runs from 12 matches in the Caribbean Premier League in 2019.

Super Kings had middle-order woes in 2019 season and with Hetmyer in the side, an attacking mindset will reduce the pressure of MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo in the final stages of the innings.

Kusal Perera:

Kusal Perera was approached by SunRisers Hyderabad as a replacement for David Warner in the 2018 season but he opted to play in Sri Lankan domestic cricket instead. With T20 World Cup set to be played in Australia in 2020, he is in the auction pool to gain valuable experience in this format.

Perera has played 42 T20I and scored 1171 runs at an average of 27.88 & strike rate of 135.06

Kusal Perera can be used anywhere in the top 4, and can bring flexibility as Chennai will also get a back up for Shane Watson.

Naveen-Ul-Haq:

Afghanistan spinners have made a name for themselves but the rise of Naveen, a fast bolwer, has been a talking point in the cricket fraternity of late.

Naveen made his International debut against Bangladesh and announced himself into the big stage through the T20I series against West Indies in Lucknow. His figures in three matches are 1/39(4), 1/19(3) and 3/24(4).

Known for mixing up his pace and tough to read his variations from hand makes him ideal for slow Chennai surface. Also, he can be more than a handy back-up option for Lungi Ngidi in the side.
