Hashim Amla, born in Durban in 1983, established himself as a prolific player for South Africa. He kickstarted his cricket journey at Durban High School and swiftly rose to prominence, earning a spot in the Under-19 South Africa team. Amla’s leadership skills were recognized when he captained South Africa in the 2002 Under-19 World Cup.

In 2004, Amla embarked on his Test career, making his debut against India in Kolkata. Subsequently, he made his ODI debut in 2008 and T20I debut in 2009. Notably, Amla etched his name in history as the first South African cricketer to score a triple century in Test matches. In ODIs, he achieved remarkable milestones, becoming the quickest player to amass 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 runs. Although he experienced a slight decline in form thereafter, Amla maintained an impressive average of nearly 50 in ODIs, including 27 centuries. Additionally, he amassed 28 centuries in Test matches and accumulated over 18,000 runs in international cricket. Amla bid farewell to all forms of international cricket in August 2019, marking the end of an illustrious career.

Given his remarkable batting prowess, it was only a matter of time before Amla was selected to participate in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL), widely regarded as the most famous T20 league in the world. Representing the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise, he showcased his skills during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Hashim Amla IPL performance in the rest of the IPL season after 2016 was below par. He managed to accumulate only 157 runs in 6 matches, averaging 26.16 with a decent strike rate of 131.93. However, in 2017, Amla bounced back and had a remarkable season. He scored 420 runs in 10 innings at an impressive average of 60 and a strike rate of 145.83.

In one match against RCB, Amla had a disappointing performance, scoring just 1 run despite being in good form. However, he made up for it in the next innings against the Gujarat Lions. Amla achieved his second century of the IPL season and was the last batsman to be dismissed in the 20th over. He scored an impressive 104 runs off 60 deliveries, including 8 fours and 5 sixes. Amla’s innings accounted for 55% of his team’s total runs in that match. Unfortunately, despite his outstanding efforts, KXIP ended up losing the game, similar to his first century.

Throughout the 2017 season, Hashim Amla IPL proved to be a key player for KXIP, scoring a total of 577 runs with two centuries. He emerged as the leading run-scorer for his team and ranked 6th overall in terms of total runs scored, despite playing only 10 innings. With an average of 44.38 after 16 matches, Amla secured the fourth-highest average among players who faced a minimum of 60 balls in the IPL.
