Both teams will look to kick-off the tournament with a victory after an indifferent build-up to the tournament where they proceeded to lose both of their practice matches convincingly.

South Africa have struggled for consistency in the shortest format of the game. Since the last World Twenty20 (India, 2016), they have won just a solitary series and have emerged victorious in just 7 of the last 15 T20Is.

They’ll, however, take confidence from the fact that two of those wins came against the defending champions in the Caribbean where they recovered from being 0-2 down to level the series 2-2.

South Africa will start as favourites but Sri Lanka can spring a surprise as they did in the last edition where Chamari Athapaththu (52) and Udeshika Prabodhani (2-13) steered the island nation to a 10-wicket win.
