ICC Women’s World Twenty20, 2018
Sri Lanka Women vs South Africa Women, 8th Match, Group A | SL-W vs SA-W WHO WILL WIN
The 8th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Twenty20 will see Sri Lanka Women take on South Africa Women in a Group A encounter at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia.
Both teams aim for a winning start as they look to punch above their weights
Both teams will look to kick-off the tournament with a victory after an indifferent build-up to the tournament where they proceeded to lose both of their practice matches convincingly.
South Africa have struggled for consistency in the shortest format of the game. Since the last World Twenty20 (India, 2016), they have won just a solitary series and have emerged victorious in just 7 of the last 15 T20Is.
They’ll, however, take confidence from the fact that two of those wins came against the defending champions in the Caribbean where they recovered from being 0-2 down to level the series 2-2.
SL-W vs SA-W Head-to-Head
Total- 8
Won by SA-W:- 5
Won by SL-W:- 3
Skipper Dan van Niekirk, Lizelle Lee, Sune Luus and the outrageously talented Laura Wolvaardt will be key to their batting fortunes on the slow and sluggish pitches of the Caribbean while Marizanne Kapp, Tumi Sekhukhune and the seasoned campaigner in Shabnim Ismail will spearhead the bowling unit.
Sri Lanka Women, like their opponents, come into the tournament after a 0-4 drubbing against India and defeats in both of their practise games. Part of Sri Lanka’s problem has been their batting prowess which depends heavily on Chamari Athapaththu and Hasini Perera, and if they are to spring a surprise in the tournament, the aforementioned names will have to take up the responsibility of leading the batting unit.

South Africa will start as favourites but Sri Lanka can spring a surprise as they did in the last edition where Chamari Athapaththu (52) and Udeshika Prabodhani (2-13) steered the island nation to a 10-wicket win.
