Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand 2018-19 | SL vs NZ Dream11 1st ODI Match Prediction
Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Match Preview | Who Will Win Today Match
Maunganui, January 03 Thursday at 03:30 AM IST
After clinching the two-match test series with a thumping 423 runs win in the last game, hosts New Zealand eye on World Cup preparations as they host Sri Lanka for three one-dayers starting from January 03.
With the World Cup 2019 scheduled to begin from May 30, both the sides will be beginning the final round of preparations with the first of three ODIs in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Thursday. The hosts were one of the finalists in the previous edition and would be looking to find the perfect combination as soon as possible.
Hosts boosted with the return of specialists
New Zealand has given a return call to ODI specialists Colin Munro, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham while their spin bowling all-rounder M Santner still misses out from the released squad. Kane Williamson will be leading the side while Ross Taylor will be assisting him with his experience.
In the bowling attack, hosts will be looking towards Tim Southee and Trent Boult with the new-ball while Doug Bracewell, Ferguson and Ish Sodhi will have to take care in the middle overs.
Sri Lanka eye to begin the year on a high
The visitors will be led by Lasith Malinga who has replaced Dinesh Chandimal while Angelo Mathews is missing out due to an injury. Sri Lanka looks a well-balanced team with a perfect miss of young and experienced players and it will be interesting to watch how they conduct themselves. They have Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera and Kusal Perera in their batting ranks while Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Pradeep and Kasun Rajitha will form the bowling attack along with skipper Lasith Malinga.
Sri Lanka faced a 3-1 drubbing against England in their last ODI series when England visited them last year and would be hoping to start the year on high.
Pitch report:
Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui is expected to be a good batting track with consistent bounce. The hosts have featured in four ODIs here and have managed just one win so far. So, it’s going to be an interesting affair.
