The Kings XI Punjab are steadily getting back into the groove after registering back to back wins against Royal Challengers Bangalore, followed up by an exhilarating super over victory in the Super Over versus Mumbai Indians. The Delhi Capitals on the other hand have been going through a terrific run and are occupying the top spot in the points table. Punjab will be keen on getting another big win against a challenging opposition, while Delhi look to solidify their position at the top. Here are some players who are expected to have a major say in the game ahead.
K.L. Rahul
The man in form and the man with the orange cap on top of his head. K.L. Rahul has been an absolute treat to watch in the ongoing season of the IPL. The Kings XI Punjab has scored 525 runs from the last nine appearances, which includes five fifties and a century to his name as well. Other than that, he has a batting average of 46.33 and a strike rate of 137.62 which makes him one of the most impactful performers in the tournament so far.
Kagiso Rabada
We move from the orange cap holder to the purple cap holder. Kagiso Rabada has been an instrumental figure with the ball in hand for the Delhi Capitals. He has scalped 19 wickets from the last nine games and is also now the quickest to pick 50 IPL wickets from just 27 appearances in total. The South African international will be one bowler that the Kings will have to be cautious about.
Mayank Agarwal
Other than Rahul, it’s Mayank Agarwal who has stood out with the bat, purely with his ability to time to ball with perfection. Agarwal has struck 393 runs from the last nine appearances which includes two fifties, a century, an average of 43.66 and an above par strike rate of 159.10. The specialist opening batsman is second to his captain in terms of most number of runs scored in the ongoing season so far.
Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan might have not started off well this season, but is now back to his best as per his performances from the last three games. Dhawan has scored 50 and above runs from the last three, which also includes a scintillating 101* from 58 deliveries versus Chennai Super Kings. With 359 runs from nine appearances this season, Dhawan will be keen on carrying on his recently found momentum with the bat.
Smart Picks
Mohammad Shami
Shami has been Kings XI Punjab’s most reliable bowler this season and has constant delivered when asked for. The fast bowler has scalped 1 4 wickets from the last nine appearances and also put in a stellar performance in the Super Over which prevented Mumbai Indians to score just six runs. He will definitely be taking confidence from that match and will be one to watch out for here.
Shreyas Iyer
The Delhi Capitals captain has been as level headed as one can be with his leadership. Other than that, Shreyas Iyer has done decently well with the bat by not throwing away his wicket for cheap individual scores and by providing a platform for his middle order batsmen in the death overs. Iyer has scored 321 runs from the last nine appearances which includes two half centuries, an average of 40.12 and a strike rate of 132.09.
