Kolkata Knight Riders have made a late adjustment to their squad for IPL 2025, bringing in Chetan Sakariya to replace the injured Umran Malik. The franchise confirmed that Malik will miss the entire season due to injury, opening the door for Sakariya to join the team.
Sakariya, a left-arm medium pacer, has prior experience in the IPL and international cricket. He has played 19 IPL matches, picking up 20 wickets along the way. Additionally, he has represented India in one ODI and two T20Is. His ability to swing the ball early and deliver in the death overs makes him a valuable addition to KKR’s pace attack.
The team secured Sakariya for INR 75 lakh, looking to bolster their bowling options ahead of the new season. His presence provides an alternative to KKR’s existing pace unit and adds depth to their squad. While Malik’s pace will be missed, Sakariya’s left-arm angle could prove effective in the tournament.
With the IPL season approaching, KKR will be hoping Sakariya steps up and contributes with both the new ball and in pressure situations. KKR will have their opening match on March 22 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Current odds favor KKR at around 1.66, while RCB are placed at 2.05.
