AUS vs IND Dream11 Predictions
India tour of Australia, 2018
Australia vs India, 1st T20I | AUS vs IND Dream11 Team
After weeks of anticipation, euphoria and build-up, India will kickstart their sojourn Down Under with the first T20I set to take place at the Gabba on Wednesday.
India look to start the tour on a high; Australia desperate to turn it around
Things have changed drastically last time India were in Australia for a T20I series. MS Dhoni was still leading the Indian side, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav were yet to make his debut in the shortest format, Australia, under the leadership of Steven Smith were flying high after securing a 4-1 win in the preceding ODI series and David Warner was spearheading their batting unit.
That was 2016. Two and a half years later, India, under Kohli, is embracing life without their talisman MS Dhoni in the shortest format of the game, Jasprit Bumrah has established himself as an all-format bowler, and Steve Smith, David Warner is serving a 12-month ban for their involvement in the ball tampering saga.
Post the ban of Warner and Steven Smith, Australia’s fortunes have largely pummeled in all formats of the game. They are on a four-match losing streak and part of their problem have been their fledgeling batting unit.
That Nathan Coulter-Nile was Australia’s leading run-scorer in their 0-3 whitewash highlights the deeper malice in the home sides’ batting unit. Aaron Finch’s form has deserted him in the past few months, and the likes of Chris Lynn, D’Arcy Short have not been able to replicate their Big Bash form in the international arena.
But, one shining light amidst the gloom is their imperious bowling unit. In AJ Tye (29 wickets in 16 matches), Billy Stanlake (24 wickets in 15 matches), they have proven wicket-takers while Langer & co might be tempted to play Jason Behendroff. The tearaway left-arm quick rattled the famed Indian top-3 at Guwahati last year.
But, their bowling unit will have an arduous task at their hand against Indian side which has been imperious since the last World Twenty20. Since crashing out of the 2016 World Twenty20, India has lost just one bilateral T20I series from 11, while one ended in a draw (against Australia) thanks to a washout in the decider of the 3-match series back in 2017. Much of India’s success can be attributed to India’s top-order. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma (915 runs in 26 innings) and Shikhar Dhawan (699 runs in 21 innings) are the most successful pair in the history of T20I cricket with 717 runs while KL Rahul has enjoyed a great year in T20 cricket following his pulsating form for the KXIP in the IPL, and off-course there is Virat Kohli. The Indian captain may not have played a lot of T20I cricket this year but with the kind of form that India’s talisman has displayed in the other formats and his penchant for Australia, he’ll once again be the lynchpin of the batting unit.
The middle-order still remains a worry but with Rishab Pant in fine form after his half-century against the Windies in the last T20I and Dinesh Karthik’s experience of soaking the pressure at the death, India might not miss MS Dhoni- the batsman, much.
India’s bowling will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav while the left-arm pace of Khaleel Ahmed will give variety to the attack.
Stat Corner
- India have won none of the eleven bilateral series since WT20, 2016, losing one (against Windies, 2016) and drawing the other (vs Australia, 2017)

- Rohit Sharma, with 915 runs at 38.12, is the leading run-scorer for India since the 2016 WT20.

- India has won 10 of the 15 T20Is played against Australia.

AUS vs IND Dream11 Fantasy Tips
Wicket-Keeper:– From steering his side to an improbable win in the Nidahas Trophy final to soaking up the pressure against the Windies, Dinesh Karthik has been the go-to guy for India in 2018. In 11 matches, Karthik has scored 129 runs at an average of 64.50 and is an ideal pick for your Dream11 side.
Batters:- With 111 runs at an average of 40.00 and two tons, Rohit Sharma has been in imperious form in 2018. He, along with Shikhar Dhawan (572 runs at 38.13), Virat Kohli and KL Rahul (101 runs at 42.42, 100s 1) will be the prudent fantasy picks from India. From Australia, you may opt for Aaron Finch and Chris Lynn.
All-rounders:- Krunal Pandya made an impressive start to his T20I career against the Windies while Maxwell and Stoinis are proven performers in this format.
Bowlers:– Both sides boast of proven T20I bowlers who have the ability to take wickets at crucial junctures. While India will bank on their X-Factors in Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (10 wickets), left-arm spin of Kuldeep (17 wickets in six matches), they may be tempted to play Khaleel Ahmed ahead of the Yuzvendra Chahal, who had 28 wickets to his name this year.
Australia, on the other hand, will bank on AJ Tye (29 wickets in 16 matches), Billy Stanlake (24 wickets in 15 matches), they have proven wicket-takers while Langer & co might be tempted to play Jason Behendroff. The tearaway left-arm quick rattled the famed Indian top-3 at Guwahati last year.
Quick Pro Tip:- With Australia’s perennial weakness against spin well known, picking Kuldeep Yadav as captain/vice-captain of your side can reap you rewards. Also, Kohli is yet to score a T20I fifty this year, the Indian captain who registered scores of 90*, 59* and 50 in the last T20I series in Australia.
