India and England are currently playing the first Test match of the five-Test series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The two sides are coming into this series after disappointing losses against New Zealand in a home Test series and the World Test Championship Final 2021, respectively.
Although it is England who has the home advantage on the side this time around, the visitors will aim to better their performance from the previous two outings against England in 2014 and 2018 and will be looking to register their first Test series win since 2007 in the UK.
India vs England 2021: Three key threats for Team India in the series against England
England has never been a happy hunting ground for the Indian cricket team in Test matches as they have won just six times in the last 84 years. Team India has always struggled against the quality seamers of England but with all the bases covered this time, it will be interesting to see if the visitors will dominate this time around on that front.
England however, suffered a major blow ahead of the series as premier all-rounder Ben Stokes, who could’ve been a potential threat for Team India, pulled out of the entire series to concentrate on his mental health.
As Team India and England are facing each other in the first Test match of the five-Test series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Let us have a look at three players who can be a threat for visitors in the ongoing series.
James Anderson
James Anderson is one of the greatest ever Test bowlers the world has ever witnessed. The talismanic pacer is the highest wicket-taking seam bowler in the history of Test cricket. He is fourth on the list for most wickets in Test cricket with 617 scalps (at an average of 26.67) so far and is only two wickets behind Indian legend Anil Kumble (619).
The 39-year-old has had success against India and has troubled batsmen with his nippy swinging deliveries. The right-arm pacer was all over Indian skipper Virat Kohli during India’s tour to England in 2014 and dismissed him four times during that Test series.
James Anderson has been England’s most successful bowler against India. His tally of 118 wickets against Virat Kohli-led side is the most he has recorded against any side in his Test career. In the ongoing Test series, the English pacer spearhead can be one of the major threats for India as he has taken wickets at an average of 25.59 in 30 Test matches against the subcontinent side.
