Virat Kohli’s 149 at the Edgebaston in 2018
Virat Kohli after having a horrendous tour of England in 2014 showcased his class and set the stage on fire when India toured England in 2018. Even though the visitors were at the receiving end of the 4-1 drubbing, the Indian skipper was the standout performer for his team.
During the first Test match of the tour, Virat Kohli played one of the finest knocks by an Indian batsman in England. Batting first, the home side managed to score 287 in the first innings and in reply the visitors on account of masterful 149 runs by Indian skipper made 274 while none of his fellow batsmen crossed 26 run-mark.
England then had a rather miserable second innings as they were bowled out for just 180 on the board and setting a target of 194, which India fell short of by 31 runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli yet again top-scored with 51, but his knock in both the innings went in vain as Sam Curran’s spell of 4/74 and 1/18 did India in.
India vs England team: Virat Kohli’s form will be crucial for Team India in England.
Going into England series, Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s form would be vital for Team India. The Indian skipper hasn’t been in good touch off late. It’s been a long time since the Indian batting sensation scored a century. In the last 14 innings, he managed to score only 3 fifties with the last century coming against Bangladesh in 2019.
Virat Kohli has a below-par record in England’s conditions. The swashbuckling batsman has 727 runs at an average of 36.35, including two centuries against ‘Three Lions’. During his first tour to England in 2014, which he calls the worst phase of his career, Virat Kohli scored just 135 runs at an average of 13.40 in five Tests.

However, in 2018, the Indian skipper set the stage on fire when India toured England as he scored 593 runs from 10 innings at an average of 59.30. If the Indian skipper can replicate the same heroics as of 2018 there’s a fair chance that Team India can defeat England in the Test series in which will be their first win since 2007.
