Sachin Tendulkar’s 119 at Manchester in 1990 

During India’s tour of England in 1990, Old Trafford witnessed a superlative rescue effort from the 17-year-old Sachin Tendulkar. The visitors were already 1-0 down in the series and were trying to keep the series alive. Batting first, England posted a mammoth score of 519 runs in the first innings.

In reply, India scored a steady 432 with captain Mohammad Azharuddin scoring 179, Sanjay Manjrekar making 93 and Sachin Tendulkar getting 68. England then put a solid score in the second innings as well, setting a target of 408 for visitors to win. Chasing the target of 408 to win the second  Test match, Team India was in a spot of bother as they lost quick wickets. Half the team was back in the pavilion at 127/5 and the visitors were staring at another defeat.

Batting at No.6 Sachin Tendulkar, having scored 68 in the first innings, carried his red hot form and played a cool and composed inning and batted for 225 minutes with Manoj Prabhakar to save the Test match and ended with the score at 343/6. The former Indian skipper remained unbeaten on 119 runs and in the process, he became the second-youngest man to score a Test hundred. The 17-year-old was also awarded man of the match for his magical innings.
