Lord’s Test in 2014
The 2014 Lord’s Test match victory has been one of the greatest overseas victories in the history of Indian cricket. An all-round performance from the MS Dhoni’s men saw visitors clinching its first Test match at Lord’s in 28 years.
After the first Test match ended as a draw, England and India faced off in the second Test match at Lords. Asked to bat first, the visitors lost both their openers in quick succession of time and then James Anderson claimed Virat Kohli’s wicket which saw hosts tumbling at 86/3. Kohli’s dismissal brought Ajinkya Rahane, who was playing his first test series in England, to the crease.
The right-handed batsman stitched 90 runs for the eighth wicket with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and then got to his second test century. Rahane’s ton helped India put a first-innings total of 295 runs.

In reply, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s six-wicket haul helped visitors bowl out England for 329 runs. Trailing by 24 runs, Indian opener Murli Vijay in the second innings gave a solid start to the team and scored 95 runs. A brutal finishing knock of 61 off 57 balls by Ravindra Jadeja helped MS Dhoni-led side set England a target of 319 to chase. At one moment it almost seemed that hosts were cruising through, but Ishant Sharma’s 7-wicket haul scripted a historic 95-run win for India at the Lord’s.
