India vs England 2021: Five Indian players for whom Test series against England is most crucial
After Team India’s disappointing loss against New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship there were many flaws exposed. The upcoming Test series against England could make or break series for few Indian players as they were criticised for their performances in the summit clash.
Let’s have a look at the five Indian players for whom this series would be crucial.
Rohit Sharma
Ever since Rohit Sharma started opening in Test cricket he has looked a completely different batsman. He turned the tables around when he got the opportunity to open in Test cricket for India in 2019. In his first Test series as an opener, he amassed 529 runs at an average of 132.25 with two hundreds and one double hundred to his name in the four innings he played.
Indian limited-overs vice-captain averages over 46 after 39 Tests which certainly prove his prowess as a Test cricketer however, these numbers dip drastically when ‘Hitman’ plays the longest format of the game in overseas conditions. The right-handed batsman has had problems facing swing bowling in the past and has an average of just 27.27 in overseas conditions.
The Mumbai Indians skipper looked good in the two Tests he played Down Under and in the recently concluded ICC WTC final, Rohit Sharma looked the most comfortable Indian batsmen but failed to convert his starts into a big knock. The 34-year-old would be determined to put up a better show against England as the five-Test series will define him as a Test cricketer.
