Virat Kohli’s “I am quiet” gesture during the third Test in Mohali in 2016
England toured India for the five-Test series in 2016, Although the home side won the series 4-0 the banter between Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes was the highlight of the series.
During Day 1 of the third Test, the Indian captain gave Ben Stokes a send-off after he got dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja, the duo then was engaged in an argument. The umpires then intervened and Stokes was pulled up under ICC’s code of conduct for his behaviour and gesture.
When India came to bat in the second innings, all-rounder Ben Stokes took five wickets in India’s first innings and one of his victims was Virat Kohli. After dismissing the Indian skipper, the all-rounder made a comic gesture with ‘sealed lips’ to convey that he was under sanction.
After conceding a lead of 134 runs in the first innings, England started their second essay and in the turn of events after Stokes got a leg before the wicket by Ravichandran Ashwin for just 5, Indian skipper Virat Kohli kept a finger on his lips suggesting “I am quiet” to those expecting a backlash from him.
