The hosts had a dream start to the third day of the second Test match as overnight batsmen Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root took full advantage of sunny conditions and India’s indisciplined bowling, scoring 97 runs and made sure that no English wicket fell in the first session.
Even though Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma provided Team India with a much important breakthrough of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Buttler respectively but Joe Root’s master class was too much for Indian bowlers to handle.
Joe Root exhibits high-class at Lord’s
Joe Root has looked a class apart in the ongoing second Test match against India at Lord’s cricket ground. Coming to bat at No.4 English skipper joined forces with opener Rory Burns to rebuild the home side’s innings after losing two wickets during the last session of Day 2. While the southpaw was dismissed just before the stumps, Root didn’t lose his concentration and remained unbeaten on 48 at the end of the day’s play.

Resuming the innings on Day 3, Joe Root put up a batting exhibition and scored runs all over the park. The right-handed batsman paced his knock to perfection and notched up his 22nd Test ton and etched his name on Lord’s honours board. During his innings, the 30-year-old also crossed 9000 run-mark in Test cricket as Indian bowlers field to pierce Root’s solid defence. Notably, he made sublime 109 in second innings of the first Test match and in the same match, the talismanic batsman also scored 64 in the first innings.
English skipper stitched valuable partnerships with Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler to take his team to the comfortable position. At Tea on Day 3, the home is side just 50 runs away from India’s score and are 314/5 with Root and Moeen Ali unbeaten on 132 and 20 respectively.

Resuming the innings on an overnight score of 119/3, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow gave a dream start to the hosts on Day 3 as looked very comfortable at the crease and proceeded confidently without giving any chances to Indian bowlers and at the same time punished the bad deliverers. The duo stitched up a well-compiled 121-run partnership before Bairstow was caught by Virat Kohli off Mohammad Siraj in the 79th over.
