It’s not been an easy ride for Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammed Amir in the recent months. Following an out-of-form season, and nearly missing his opportunity to be selected in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 squad, the 27-year-old bowler may face another blow due to his deteriorating health condition by missing out on playing the opening match with Windies on Friday.

Late inclusion to PAK WC squad

Amir’s out-of-form season had initially provoked the selectors of Pakistan’s world cup team to not include him in the first 15 players squad list. However, upon seeing an unexciting performance from the bowlers of their team in the ODI series against England, the selectors were quick to welcome him back into the squad.

He came into the limelight in the 2017’s Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan, where the bowler’s stellar performance and three wickets ushered Pakistan to come out victorious. However, since then, Amir has not managed to keep up with the expectations, taking a total of only five wickets in the last 14 international games he has played.

Upon that, the cricketer has had to face constant health challenges this year. Beginning with a viral infection that forced him to be left out of the ODI series against England, to his current battle with suspected chickenpox, his health problems have impacted his overall performance.
