Decision review system(DRS) is popularly known among cricket fans in India as Dhoni Review system due to former India captains expertise in calling it correctly. Indian captain Virat Kohli has missed his guidance and advice since the former captains break from international cricket post the 2019 World Cup.

Dhoni and Kohli have a great understanding with each other and Dhoni  on various occasions has helped the Indian skipper with decisive DRS calls. However, in his absence, the role was duly performed by the Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the second ODI, of the three-match series, between India and New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland.

The incident took place during the initial overs of the second ODI when Shardul Thakur trapped Martin Guptill as his delivery hit the right-hander’s pads. The bowler was keen on a DRS call along with the Indian skipper Kohli. However, Kohli was involved with the likes of KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal in a conversation.  Chahal actively came running down to the skipper and convinced him to opt-out from a DRS review.

Here is the video of the whole incident:

It can be seen that Chahal used his knowledge and understanding of the situation to prevent Kohli from wasting a review. Guptill went onto stretch his stay in the middle and fell for a run-a-ball 79 before a mix-up with Ross Taylor in the middle.

Chahal, a former chess player has been widely regarded by experts as someone who uses his brain wisely to trick the batsman even though he has much less variations in his bag compared to other modern day leg spinners. He came into the playing XI after Kuldeep Yadav went for plenty in the ODI series opener at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Wednesday. He returned with figures of 10-0-58-3 and removed the likes of Tim Southee, Mark Chapman and Henry Nicholls.
