The 7 match ODI series between India and Australia in the year 2013 in India was one of the high intense and high scoring bilateral series in the last decade or so. The batters called the shots in that entire series and the life of the bowlers in that series from both the sides were hell.
India eventually won the series 4-3 after winning the decider at the M chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore where Rohit Sharma created history that will stay in the history books forever. The amount of records the present Indian vice captain broke that day was hard to remember by.
Teammates were disappointed after Rohit Sharma’s 200
India were sent into bat on a flat track in Bangalore by George Bailey which he would have regretted for sure. The series was hanging with both the teams winning 3 apiece in the 7 match series and it was everything to play for both the teams that day. India dominated the proceedings from the word go and were hitting the ball from the middle of the bat as the pitch was conducive to batting.
The showstopper though was Rohit Sharma who brought up his maiden double century in that game and helped India to post 383 runs on the board. Rohit Sharma eventually departed for 209 runs off 158 balls but the teammates were disappointed that he couldn’t break Virender Sehwag‘s record
When I went back after scoring the double century, someone was telling me that if you would have batted another over or so you would have broken Virender Sehwag’s record also
They wanted to score 15 runs extra- Rohit Sharma
The Hit-man smacked 16 sixes in his innings of 209 and he thrashed every Australian bowler to all the parts of the ground India went on to win the game by 57 runs before James Faulkner gave a scare to the Indian fans as he was looking good to make the improbable happen with his unbelievable knock of 116 from just 73 deliveries
Here’s what Rohit Sharma had to say about what Yuvraj Singh said on that day in the dressing room about his double century
The expectation in the dressing room is really high. There were three or four guys who wanted me (Rohit) to score 10 or 15 more runs, Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) was one of them and maybe Shikhar Dhawan too
