Former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh has revealed that Suresh Raina used to be MS Dhoni’s favorite cricketer. During an Instagram Live session with India Today, Yuvraj Singh claimed that Suresh Rania was ‘captain’s favorite’ in the team and he had the larger support than everybody else.

What did Yuvraj Singh say?

While talking to India Today via Instagram Live former left-handed batsman revealed that Raina had more backing of then captain MS Dhoni than everyone else as he was Dhoni’s favorite cricketer in the team. Reflecting upon selection dilemma Yuvi recalled that if it wasn’t for his left-arm spin bowling, MS Dhoni would have played Raina over him in the 2011 World Cup.

Suresh Raina had a larger support then, because MS used to back him. Every captain has a favourite player and I think Mahi really backed Raina at that time. Yusuf Pathan was also performing well at that time and even I was doing well and was also picking wickets.

And Raina was not in a good touch then. They did not have a left-arm spinner at that time and I was picking wickets so they did not have any choice.

Said, Yuvraj Singh.

It must not come as a surprise to many as Dhoni’s love for Raina was pretty evident during his captaincy days. Moreover, both players are part of the same franchise CSK since the inception of IPL, barring 2 years when CSK was suspended.

In case you don’t know:

Both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina are the World Cup winners under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. While the former is already retired from the game, the latter is still active and hopeful of getting a recall to the Indian side. However, Raina’s stocks have fallen immensely in recent years and it would be tough for him to make a return to the Indian side when MS Dhoni is no longer the captain of the Indian side.
