Veteran Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh who has already announced his retirement last year has disclosed which bowler troubled him the most in his playing days.
The swashbuckling left-hander revealed that he struggled particularly against the Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan and had ‘no clue’ against him.
‘I had no clue against him’: Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh who is regarded as one of the finest strikers of the Cricket ball, has found it tough to bat against Sri Lanka’s greatest spin wizard.
In an interview with the Sportstar, Yuvraj said;
“I really struggled against (Muttiah) Muralitharan. Had no clue against him. Glenn (McGrath) would trouble me a lot with the away-going delivery. Luckily I didn’t play much against McGrath because in Test matches I was sitting out and cheering for the seniors,”
Took advise from Sachin Tendulkar to tackle Muralitharan’s threat
In the interview, Yuvraj mentioned that he seemed advice from the little master Sachin Tendulkar and the latter really helped him to tackle Murali’s threat.
“Sachin (Tendulkar) told me to start sweeping (against Muralitharan) and I was at ease,” he added.
Talking about his numbers against Muralitharan, he has been dismissed 5 times in 34 ODI innings which includes 4 holds and a catch dismissal.
In the interview, he also discussed that under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly his game really flourished. He achieved success both as a batsman and as a player under ‘Dada’s’ captaincy as he got ample opportunities.
The fact can not be denied that Yuvraj Singh played an instrumental role in India’s World Cup glory. Be it the 2007 World T20 or the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, he was the ‘Man of the Series’ in both mega-events and was the architect of India’s World Cup glory. He is still remembered for his 6 sixes in the 2007 World T20 against England.
