World Test Championship Final: After India’s defeat in the 3rd Test of the India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Test series, their road to the World Test Championship final has become complicated. With Australia qualifying for the finals after a win in Indore Test, India and Sri Lanka are the only teams with a chance to make it to the final.
Australia leads the WTC points table with a PCT of 69+. India’s PCT has dropped to 60 but they still occupy the second spot. Sri Lanka is placed third with a PCT of 53.0.
India’s Qualification Scenario After the 3rd Test
After a convincing victory against India in the 3rd Test, Australia has confirmed its place in the World Test Championship final. They have attained the top spot in the WTC rankings with a PCT of 69.0. Even if Australia loses the 4th Test and faces a 3-1 defeat in the series, they will still have a PCT of 65.0 and reserve their peak spot in the points table.
World Test Championship Final: India’s Road to the Final
After losing the 3rd Test, India needs to win the 4th Test against Australia to confirm their place in the WTC final. If India defeats Australia 3-1, they will grab a PCT of 63.0 and finish as the second team in the points table. In this case, Australia’s PCT will drop to 65.0 but they will still qualify for the WTC final with India by taking the top spot in the WTC points table.
Sri Lanka’s Hopes of Reaching the WTC Final
Sri Lanka still has an outside chance to reach the World Test Championship final. They need to win their upcoming Test series against New Zealand by a 2-0 margin. If they manage to achieve this, they will end with a PCT of 61.0 and follow Australia and India in the 3rd place of the WTC table. However, this would only happen if India loses the 4th Test against Australia which is highly unlikely to happen.
