World Test Championship Final Date: Test cricket remains the purest and hardest form of cricket. The second edition of the World Test Championship Final is on the horizon. Months of hard work and fiercely fought contests will culminate in the ultimate game to be played at the Oval on 8 June 2023. There will be a reserve day planned in case rain spoils the party.

Current holders of the trophy New Zealand are out of the reckoning for the final. The Kiwis had beaten India convincingly in the first WTC final which was held in Southampton. Australia are touring India in February-March for a four match test series starting on 9 Ferbruary in Nagpur. The Border-Gavaskar trophy might actually end up as a rehearsal for the WTC final. Australia already have a foot in the final while India could make it if they notch three wins in the series. However, the conditions at the Oval will be drastically different.

Can India Qualify for the WTC Final 2023?

India are in a battle with Sri Lanka and South Africa for a spot in the finals. They will end up at 62.5 PCT, which is more than the maximum points, if they defeat Australia 3-1 in the four-match Test series. India would have a greater chance of making it to the WTC Final if they win by a score of 3-0. A 2-0 win might also suffice if results go their way in the NZ-SL and WI-SA series.

Another scenario is such that if a test match between SL & NZ is drawn, India can qualify for the WTC 2023 finals if they win against Australia with a score of 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, or draw by a score of 2-2. However, if India loses the Test series with a score of 0-0, 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 1-1, 1-2, or 1-3, they will have to heavily rely on a number of permutations and combinations. With rank turners set to be employed against the Aussies, we feel optimistic about India’s chances.
