Women’s Premier League Auction Date, Team Purse, Squad Size, Overseas Players and All WPL Details

After a long wait, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to kick off in the upcoming March. However, the actual schedule is yet to be announced. The tournament will feature five teams: Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Warriors, and Delhi Capitals. (CCI) Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host the entire tournament.
Previously, the BCCI (Board for Control of Cricket in India) sold media rights to the tournament for INR 951 Cr to Viacom18. Every match they broadcast will be worth INR 7.09 Cr, making it the second-largest cricket tournament after the men’s IPL. Further, the board sold the five franchises mentioned above for a whopping amount of INR 4669.99 Cr. Considering the money it has already earned, the tournament is expected to do more for women’s cricket with a blockbuster inaugural season.

WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE AUCTION DATE, TEAM PURSE, SQUAD SIZE, OVERSEAS PLAYERS, AND ALL WPL DETAILS
WPL: AUCTION DATE
The auction for the inaugural WPL will be held at the Jio World Centre in BKC (Mumbai) on February 13. The day-long auction will feature approximately 90 players under the hammer.
TEAM PURSE
Each team will have a purse of INR 12 crore (about US $1.46 million). The base price of a capped player in the auction can be between INR 30 lakh to INR 50 lakh. While the uncapped players will enter the auction with base prices of INR 10 lakh to INR 20 lakh.
SQUAD SIZE
Unlike the men’s IPL, each franchise is allowed to buy a minimum of 15 players. While the maximum limit is 18 players.
OVERSEAS PLAYERS
Each team can buy seven overseas players including one from an associate nation. The teams will be allowed to keep five overseas players in the starting XI, among which one will have to be from an associate nation, again.
