Wisden names Virat Kohli as ODI Cricketer of the Decade

The Indian captain Virat Kohli has been undoubtedly the most consistent batsmen in World Cricket since his debut. With an average of above 50 across all the formats of the game, he has lifted the team’s spirits with his performances. After taking the leadership role, he has taken him upon himself to make the team best in World Cricket. Although he has not won any trophies, still has been giving his full effort at the ICC tournaments or IPL.

ODI Cricketer of the Decade: Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has another feather on his cap after being named the Wisden Almanack’s ODI cricketer of the 2010s. He started playing in the early part of the decade and in the 2011 world cup, where India won it. No one would have guessed that- at the end of this decade, Virat will end up scoring more than 11,000 runs in ODI with an excellent average of over 60 and terrific 42 centuries. The Indian captain was named as the winner, for his remarkable and astonishing performance in the decade of 2010’s. He will hope to go forward, as the best in this decade too.

Who are the other cricketers awarded by Wisden?
The former Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar was named as the ODI Cricketer of the 1990’s. This was due to his incredible performance in the calendar year of 1998, where he scored 9 centuries. While Kapil Dev was named as the ODI cricketer of the 1980s. Under his leadership, Team Indian won their first-ever World Cup in 1983. He picked the most wickets and scored with the highest strike rate than any other playing in that decade.
Along with them, Ben Stokes has been named as the “leading cricketer in the World” for two consecutive years. While Kieron Pollard is the “leading T20 cricketer in the World”.
