Team India will be back to cricketing action after almost a month of losing the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 against Australia and now they are in West Indies to play a two-match Test series. West Indies will be locking horns with the visiting Indian team in the first Test match at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica starting from 12 July, 2023. Incidentally, the Indian side ended up losing a Test match against West Indies in 2002.
WI vs IND 1st Test: Windsor Park Records
Dominica has been a host to only five Test matches in its history. The inaugural Test at Windsor Park took place in 2011, featuring India and West Indies. Since then, the venue has witnessed two Test matches between West Indies and Australia, as well as one match each against Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
After a hiatus of over six years, Test cricket is set to return to Dominica with the first match of India’s tour of West Indies in 2023. The anticipation is high as Windsor Park, which hosted a T20I just last year, is thrilled to be awarded a Test match once again, marking its first since the Pakistan series in 2017.
This upcoming WI vs IND 1st Test match will mark the 14th international match held at Windsor Park, with only six of them being Test matches. Looking back at the previous five Tests, West Indies emerged victorious in one and suffered three defeats, with the inaugural Test ending in a draw involving India. Notably, this will be India’s first appearance at this stadium since their last encounter back in 2011.
Windsor Park has hosted a total of five Test matches thus far, with West Indies securing only one victory. The remaining three matches were claimed by visiting teams, while one ended in a draw. Interestingly, both the teams batting first and second have emerged triumphant on two occasions each. The average first innings total at this venue typically ranges between 240 and 250 runs. Regrettably, West Indies has not managed to win a single Test match against India in the past 21 years.
