Hosts West Indies have dropped senior fast bowler Shannon Gabriel for the first of the two-match Test series against India being played at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. West Indies will definitely be looking forward to come up with an improved performance both in the batting as well as bowling departments to challenge this Indian Test team. The Windies team have managed to win just a single Test out of their last 5 Test matches in the recent while.
WI vs IND: Why is Shannon Gabriel Not Playing West Indies vs India 1st Test?
After having won the toss and opting to bat first, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite stated that pace bowler Shannon Gabriel is not part of the WI playing XI for this WI vs IND 1st Test match. Brathwaite mentioned that they are going ahead with as many as two specialist spinners, Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican in the side. Gabriel has played a total of 58 Test matches so far for the national team having picked up as many as 164 wickets at an average of 31.96 that includes 6 five-wicket hauls.
“We are batting first, the surface is generally dry, bit of moisture, we’ll have to work hard in the first hour. We had a 10-day camp, Brian Lara was there as well, had a practice game amongst ourselves, looking good. We have been in good positions during the last cycle, but it’s all about being consistent. Want to see the guys be positive. Athanaze is making his debut, Cornwall and Warrican are the two spinners, Kirk McKenzie and Shannon Gabriel miss out,” said West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite during the toss.
