WI vs IND: Why is Navdeep Saini Not Playing West Indies vs India 1st Test?
During the toss, it was noted that fast bowler Navdeep Saini misses out from the India playing 11 for this WI vs IND 1st Test match in Dominica. India have went ahead with a total of three specialist pace bowlers in the line-up, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat. Interestingly, Saini played his last Test match for India against Australia in January 2021. The 30-year-old speedster has played just a couple of Test matches for the national team so far having taken as many as 4 wickets at an average of 43. However, he has travelled with the Indian Test team during the last few series in capacity of a net bowler.
“We have been here for a while, played a practice game in Barbados, here in Dominica for the last 4 days, rain did have a say, but we’re well prepared. The championship cycle final is two years away, but we’ve been consistent over the last couple of cycles. New guys in the squad, we just want to keep better as a team. I want the two debutants to enjoy, they’ve worked hard to come here, I want to make them feel comfortable and have some good memories of their first Test,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
