WI vs IND: Why is Axar Patel Not Playing India vs West Indies 2nd Test?
During the toss, it was revealed that Axar Patel has been once again left out from the India playing XI for the WI vs IND 2nd Test match. The left-arm spinner warmed the bench during the WTC Final 2023 against Australia and also in the first Test match against West Indies. During the opening Test match, Ravichandran Ashwin ended up taking a wonderful 12-wicket match haul while Ravindra Jadeja also took as many as 5 wickets in the game. Axar’s outstanding performance, especially with the bat, during the recent Test series against Australia at their home grounds deserves high praise.
Throughout the four matches, he showcased his incredible talent, accumulating a remarkable total of 264 runs, boasting an impressive average of 88. Despite facing challenging conditions, he displayed remarkable resilience, notching up three half-centuries during the series. His achievements stand as a testament to his skill and determination on the cricket field.
“We were looking to bat first. Looks nice and sunny as well. It’s going to get slower and slower. Shardul has pulled up a niggle. He’s not fit. Mukesh Kumar is going to make his debut. He has worked hard in the domestic cricket. There’s lot of memories, the rivalry between the two teams has always been exciting to watch. It’s always been a tough tour, you have to work hard. Even in the last game, we had to work hard, especially the batters. Hopefully we get the result we are expected of,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
